Open area excavation

Open area excavation generally includes the excavation of an entire development footprint or substantial sections known to contain intact archaeology.

This method is generally only applicable to large sites where no prudent or feasible method can be found to retain significant features and deposits in situ. Work of this scale will generally involve both mechanised and hand excavation techniques in order to expose archaeological fabric and deposits in the most time efficient manner. Such excavation also includes surveying to map the exposed elements and best practice recording of all resident structures and deposits. Our company provides all these services as part of an excavation package. Additionally we can expidite waste soil removal, importation of new fill and compaction of fill to required levels.
